Body Music – Every Sunday at Bembe

Body Music 1Body Music. Funk. Soul. Disco. Afrobeat. House. Latin. Reggae. And much more. Music to make you move. DJ sets that bridge the gap between live and electronic music. Some of Brooklyn’s very best musicians getting together for the love of music, experimenting with new sounds, and focused squarely on igniting dancefloor fire all night long.

Body Music (formerly known as No Selector) is a weekly event held at Bembe, one of Brooklyn’s most unique venues, on the corner of South 6th St. and Berry in Williamsburg. Jesse Mann is co-founder, resident DJ, and musical curator at this Sunday evening showcase, which has been going strong since November of 2005.

The idea of Body Music is to bring together the live music element with that of the DJ in unique ways. Talented local musicians play a variety ranging from funk and soul to afro beat, dub, and calypso. The further addition of Jesse’s DJ sets playing everything from jazz and funk to disco and house, makes for a truly eclectic night of music. As live percussion and bass play alongside DJ-led tracks often in tandem, something new and exciting is created every Sunday night. Past guests have included The Dub Trio and the Pimps of Joytime, along with members of Fischerspooner, LCD Soundsystem, Escort, and countless others.

SolangeFormer resident music makers include world class drummer Guy Licata, multi-talented Brooklyn musician Abe Sieferth, accomplished DJ Evan Baggs, currently residing in Berlin, and the lovely Solange Raulston, AKA Reverend Soul (RIP)
